Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert Everything everywhere all at once leads with eight total nods among the nominations for this year’s Independent Spirit Awards, which were announced today.

They’re not the only former 25 New Faces of Film included: the gripping debut of Charlotte Wells After sun counts five total nominations; by Ricky D’Ambrogio Cathedral receives three; kogonada is lauded in the categories of Best Director and Best Screenplay for After Yang; Dean Fleischer Camp (along with Nick Paley) is nominated in the Best Editing category for Marcel the Shell with shoes; by Lena Dunham Catherine Called Birdy gets a nod for best screenplay; Nikyatu Jusu is recognized as a potential someone to watch with her film Nanny; Isabel Castro comes in the Truer Than Fiction category with Mijà; from the newest crop of New Faces, Ellie Foumbi Our Father, the Devil is nominated for best feature film.

The nominations for the 2023 Independent Spirit Awards are notable as the first time gender-neutral categories have been used for acting awards. The awards ceremony will take place on March 4, 2022. The host is yet to be announced. The TV nominees will be announced on December 13.
