Kody Brown Says In 'Sister Wives' He Won't 'Break My Back' To Help His Wife Janelle Because She 'Don't Respect Him'

  • Kody Brown said on “Sister Wives” that he didn’t want to help his wife Janelle build a house.
  • “If you don’t respect me, don’t worry about love,” Kody said.
  • Janelle said Kody was venting his relationship issues on her, which she called “stunning.”

Tensions ran high between Kody Brown and his second wife Janelle Brown on Sunday’s episode of “Sister Wives” because Kody refused to “break my back” for a wife he felt she didn’t “respect” for him.

As documented in Season 17, Janelle moved from her home in Flagstaff, Arizona to an RV on the Brown family’s Coyote Pass property with her 17-year-old daughter Savanah Brown. She hoped the rest of the family would start building houses there as they had. she originally planned to do.

But living in the RV was harder than she expected, so Janelle changed her plans and told Kody that she now wanted to rent a house to live in until her house was built.

The couple argued multiple times throughout the episode because Kody wanted Janelle to buy his ex Christine’s house (which was on the market at the time) so they could rent it out in the future. Janelle resisted because she said she couldn’t afford the mortgage on both houses. She believed she could build her own house on Coyote Pass within a year.

In a solo interview, Janelle said the only reason Kody wanted to buy Christine’s house was that he wanted to keep it in the family, instead of really thinking about her needs. She said she would feel “stuck” there and not allow Kody to “roll her over” to do what she wanted to do.

In a scene at the end of Sunday’s episode, Kody visited Janelle’s RV to tell her that her plans to build the house needed to be delayed while they built a subdivision on the property.

Janelle told cameras that Kody had a “rough summer” (presumably because Christine moved) and was now doing construction issues on Coyote Pass “all my problems” and blaming her for “bothering him.” She called Kody’s behavior “stunning”.

Kody told cameras in an interview that he was resisting the idea of Janelle because he felt “disrespected” by her during the COVID-19 pandemic. As viewers saw in season 16, Janelle has been traveling during the pandemic and even berated Kody about her for trying to make her feel bad about visiting her kids.

“I’m not going to break my back working for you if you don’t respect me, I’m just not. And Janelle needs someone to break her back to get this project done and it’s not me right now.” Kody said in the interview about him.

“Men have no love for women who don’t respect them. I feel like Janelle is having a hard time respecting me or showing me respect,” she added. “If you don’t respect me, don’t worry about love.”

New episodes of “Sister Wives” air Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on TLC.
